Marcia's Teaching Style

Marcia’s Teaching Style

Marcia Questel, MS Ed, BCBA, has a teaching style that is rooted firmly in understanding the developing minds of children and teens, and that they learn best when they are enjoying it. Teaching, to her, should occur as naturally as possible, building off of the motivations and interests of her students. Marcia has three children of her own and understands how to bridge a fun activity into an "ah ha" moment, capitalizing on opportunities when children are truly engaged in the lesson or game. Plus, she is not afraid to have a good time, to think outside of the box, and to create comfort zones where children thrive by learning to take chances, make mistakes, and problem solve.

Marcia has many years of experience teaching children first how to play, and second to learn through play. Playing isn't always a first priority for families, and sometimes a lot of work needs to be done to get there, but children who learn to enjoy playing and pretending, who have many leisure skills, can be taught through an endless variety of naturally contrived situations to teach social interactions, emotional regulation, communication, and a wealth of other skills. Traditional behavior analytic concepts and science drive Marcia's decisions through the use of data collection and analysis, but the process is as absolutely natural and holistic as possible for every student.
